There’s an article in the Press Democrat today about Sonic.net’s expansion as a telecommunications and access provider.

This is a project we’ve been working on for over two years now, and Santa Rosa is just the first of many areas where service will be available. Businesses near downtown Santa Rosa can get on board now, with residential service to follow.

  3. We cannot allow photos in the central office, so this is just an image of our test lab, where we can trial new configurations, test simulated copper loops, etc.

  4. “We can now do it less expensively because we are using our own infrastructure,” Jasper said. “We’re trying to do something interesting and disruptive.”

I love the interesting part, but …

I thought I was (via exclusion) the disruptive one … ackk!! I’m more for stability than disruptiveness, but the truth is that the manners of Texas and Pennsylvania corporations tends to be more unstable in my life than Sonic. So, I get afraid when I see comments like that (what if the dinosuar dies falling, goes to sleep, pooops, steps, or otherwise does something on you), but obviously I’m not in a position to know the full breadth and depth of issues.

However, given a fair playing field, all serious comers ought to have decent results. Considering how long it takes to establish yourself as one of the BOCs, your competitors ought to be able to consider you in their calculations and avoid giving themselves, and then in their immature jealousy, you, trouble, as a result.

  5. I hate AT&T, and Equinix’s policies regarding photos on their properties. It makes sense though, because I can see why people would want to keep some of their setups secret. Anyways, what are you guys using for DSL termination, what are you guys using for firewalling at 35 mbit/sec? What are you using for firewalling today?
